Tottenham Hotspur new boy Rafael Van der Vaart experienced a strange evening against FC Twente in the Champions League.
The Dutchman seemed to be trying to make every statistic, as the Dutchman first missed a penalty, then opened his account in the second half with a well taken volley, and finally ended his night with a sending-off after getting a second yellow card.Fortunately, despite his antics, his side managed a convincing 4-1 victory over FC Twente.
"After the red card it was difficult", Van der Vaart said to Sky Sports.
"I was worried we wouldn't win the game but in the end the guys played fantastic, we fight at the end and we're really happy."
The midfield maestro was also apologetic about his penalty miss.
"It [the penalty] was a bad take," he continued.
"The keeper did great, but I was really disappointed [to miss]."
Reflecting on the match, Van der Vaart said:"It was a strange game."
"Also for me, I miss a penalty, I score a goal and I got sent off. I've never played in a game like this."
Despite the euphoria surrounding Tottenham's victory over the Swiss side, Van der Vaart was quick to turn his attentions to his side's next test- consecutive matches against current Champions League holders Inter Milan.
"It's a great start," the Dutchman declared.
"We did well, we deserved to win and we played a good match. Twente's a good team but we deserved to win. Now we have to play against Inter, and it will be a great game again."
Despite his one-match suspension for his sending off, the Dutchman was full of confidence that his side would carry on in the same vein without him.
"We have a great team, we have quality, a good squad and good confidence," he continued.
"And they're going to win for me."
