Korean GP gets green light

The Korean Grand Prix has been given the green light to take place as planned on October 24.

Following months of uncertainty due to delays in the construction of the circuit in Yeongam, the FIA have confirmed the race will now go ahead.
An FIA spokeswoman said: "Following a visit on October 11 by FIA safety delegate Charlie Whiting, the Yeongam circuit has passed its inspection with regards to the track and safety requirements for the upcoming Korean Grand Prix on October 24."

Vettel still in title contention

Sebastian Vettel kept alive his Formula One world championship hopes with a superb win at the Japanese GP at Suzuka.

Vettel won from pole position at Sunday's incident-packed race.
The German led home a Red Bull one-two from championship leader Mark Webber while Ferrari's Fernando Alonso took a strong third.
The McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton were fourth and fifth respectively, leaving both as rank outsiders for the title heading into the final three races of the season.
The result sees Webber increase his championship lead to 14 points over Alonso and Vettel, who are locked together on 206 points.

Red Bulls set pace in Japan

Red Bull are the team to beat in Japan as Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber dominated the second practice at Suzuka.

Vettel won this race from pole position last year and is on target to repeat that feat again after following up his fastest time in opening practice with the benchmark time of one minute 31.465 seconds in session two.
Championship leader Webber, who enjoys a 21-point cushion over his team-mate in the drivers' standings, finished 0.395secs down, with Renault's Robert Kubica taking third.
The session was a frustrating one for McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who was forced to sit out all but the final 10 minutes as his team repaired his damaged car.

Stoner claims victory in Japan

Ducati's Casey Stoner made it back-to-back MotoGP wins with victory in the Grand Prix of Japan at Motegi.

Stoner started the race third on the grid but was leading the way the end of the first lap, putting pole-sitter Andrea Dovizioso and second-placed Valentino Rossi in the shade.
Dovizioso and Rossi came in second and third respectively but could not live with Stoner's consistency over 24 laps and the Australian triumphed by 3.868seconds.

Alonso win singapore gp

Fernando Alonso has won the Singapore Grand Prix after holding off the challenge of Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel.

Alonso made it three wins in five races on another day of bitter frustration for Lewis Hamilton.
He clinched victory in the Singapore Grand Prix by just 0.2 seconds from Vettel to move within 11 points of title frontrunner Mark Webber who finished third.
But for the second successive race Hamilton's day culminated in retirement after a collision with Webber on lap 36 as he tried to claim a podium spot.
The first half of the 61-lap race was relatively routine, save for an early safety car at the start of lap three as Vitantonio Liuzzi broke the left-rear suspension of his Force India after pranging a wall.

Fernando Alonso steals a march on Red Bull

After an hour and 58 minutes of intense action in Singapore, Fernando Alonso beat Sebastian Vettel by 0.3 seconds.

It was his 25th victory, a tally that equals the great Jim Clark and Niki Lauda, and was undoubtedly one of his best. He stole the victory from the slightly faster Vettel/Red Bull combination.
Ferrari and Alonso deserved the win on merit in Monza two weeks ago and McLaren let them off the hook - but in Singapore Red Bull should have won and Ferrari denied them.

Ecclestone: 16 races perfect

 

Bernie Ecclestone concedes an ideal season should consist of only 16 grands prix.

The 2011 season will feature a record 20 races - the 19 grands prix from this season plus the Indian GP which will make its debut in late October.
There have been reports that Ecclestone would like to add more races to the calendar, but the F1 supremo says 20 is more than enough.

Hamilton eager to drive in Indian GP

Lewis Hamilton has said he is looking forward to drive in the inaugural Indian GP to be held in Greater Noida on October 30 next year.
"It's going to be incredible experience for me (driving in Indian Grand Prix). There were hardly any fans at the Turkey Grand Prix. But with the huge number of fans and support in India, I look forward to it (participating in the Indian Grand Prix)," said Hamilton, who is on his third visit to India for a promotional event.
The ace Formula One driver was, who was flown straight from the Chennai airport to the Madras Motorsport Race Track, drove the Rs 2.4 crore Mercedes AMG on the track as part of the event.

McLaren interested in Vettel

Martin Whitmarsh has revealed McLaren tried to sign Sebastian Vettel three years ago and will most likely make another attempt.
Vettel's arrival in Formula One at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix immediately put the German in the spotlight as he finished in eighth place for BMW, scoring his maiden world championship point, despite it being only his first grand prix.
His performance saw him snapped up by Toro Rosso, with the rookie racer bagging their best result ever when he finished fourth in the Chinese Grand Prix. A year later, he secured Toro Rosso's first ever pole position and victory at a wet Italian Grand Prix.

Germany's Nick Heidfeld will replace Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa at Sauber for the remaining five races of the season.

The 33-year-old Heidfeld was test driver for Mercedes at the start of 2010 and has recently been working on tyre development with Pirelli.

"I'm looking forward like crazy to having the opportunity to race again in a good car in Formula 1," he said.

"After the last months I'm even more motivated than ever. For me it's like coming home."
